Missing: Bethany Markowski

Updated: Feb 14, 2024

On Sunday, March 4th, 2001, the eleven year old, Bethany Leanne Markowski would disappear and has never been seen by her family again. Bethany's dad, Larry, and her mom, Johnnie, were in the midst of a tumultuous divorce. The family had lived in Gleason, TN. Johnnie took her daughter, Bethany, and fled their home while Larry was at work because of his abusive & controlling nature, according to reports. They moved to Johnnie's sisters home near Nashville. Johnnie filed a protective order against Larry. During this time, he was granted unsupervised visits with Bethany. Johnnie's sister, Lori, would serve as the go between to meet Larry. They would be meeting for the 2nd weekend in Waverly, TN, to exchange custody of Bethany. This particular weekend in March, Lori took Bethany to meet Larry on Friday, March 2nd. The return was scheduled for the same location on Sunday the 4th at 5:00 pm. According to Larry, on Sunday between 2:30-3:30, they stopped in Jackson, TN, at the Old Hickory Mall. He says Bethany needed to use the restroom, he let her go into the mall by herself. Larry took a nap in the car while Bethany was gone, he claims he woke up about 30 minutes to an hour later and Bethany had not returned to the car. He went inside to look for her but he could not find her anywhere. It was 5:15 when he called the police. This timeframe is now after the appointed pick up time in Waverly. According to multiple sources, investigators said that Bethany was not seen on the security camera videotapes filmed at the Old Hickory Mall, inside or out. It is never proven that Bethany ever entered the mall. Larry called Johnnie to inform her that their daughter was missing. Twenty-three years later, and Bethany has not returned. COMING SOON: Listen in as we discuss her disapperance, interview a family member, and talk about different times Johnnie was informed of possible sightings of Bethany.
